Bob Jane won and took the lead in the battle for the title, but it hadn’t been too convincing. Fastest in practice had been Moffat, with the bigger engine in his Mustang, ahead of Jane and Geoghegan whose Falcon wasn’t on the pace just yet.
Moffat took the lead, but in lap five Jane took over though Moffat countered soon after. It went wrong, Jane spun and was just missed by Beechey. He rejoined fourth, rose to third when Geoghegan pitted and climbed to second when Beechey retired. Moffat was 8 seconds away, but he too ran into troubles, first to change a tire which was damaged in the incident and four laps later his oil pressure dropped and he was out. Jane coasted to victory, letting Ramsay close to two seconds. Geoghegan was third while sixth overall and 2000 cc winner was Stillwell.
