For the division 2 and 3 race, everything seemed clear. Ford did not expect the lonely Schnitzer BMW to be a problem (Alpina had stayed away to prepare for the lucrative Paul Ricard race); Hezemans, after three days of practising, was sure to be able to compete the distance without refuelling. Akersloot would need a quick splash and dash.

After the start, Glemser (pole in 1.37,2) was quickest away and Hezemans tried to overtake the BMW of Quester but it only resulted in a bang and little else. Quester moved on and took the lead, and Glemser dropped back to let Marko have a try at the big BMW. Hezemans led division 2, his only opponent being Akersloot since Fitzpatrick retired on lap 1.

Marko and Glemser knew they could last the distance on their 120 litres; the BMW could not so Quester had to widen his margin as much as possible. His pit stop only lasted 9 seconds, but the Capris were just in front when he left the pits. Marko dropped back to block the BMW, but Quester was not to be intimidated, passed Marko and went on to fight Glemser - but Glemser got into temperature trouble and had to back off. Of course, Marko stayed behind his team leader so Quester could cruise to the finish.

Hezemans, in the meantime, found out that he would not reach the finish with the fuel available, so he came in and refuelled; Akersloot did the same but needed 25 seconds - and it was not enough, he stopped on the last lap with an empty tank.
But - the flag dropped one lap too soon, so Akersloot was still classified, Berg unable to catch up since his fuel stop was equally dramatic. 71 laps equals a little less than 300 km, and the race had lasted a little under 2 hours too - strictly spoken, the race result was not valid for the ETCC.

Division 1 had been a little violent too. Boshuis and van der Sluis had plans to keep Picchi and Zeccoli from the rostrum, van der Sluis took the lead initially but was passed by Picchi in lap 3. Now Boshuis tried to do something about that in lap 5, and he went through, van der Sluis immediately doing the same thing, hitting poor Picchi in the process. But luck ran out on the Dutchmen, van der Sluis retiring with clutch trouble, Boshuis went off in a big way when he had to swerve around Dex, who was using most of the road. So Picchi took an easy victory, shadowed by Zeccoli. Liane Engeman came third in Hezemans’ national championship car after she was fired by her previous team, supported by Hezemans from the pits.
