The result was a race that became a procession after some promising practice times. Brian Muir in the Wiggins Teape/Gartlan prepared Camaro, now with 5.7-litre of Chevrolet power, set the first ever 100 mph+ lap for a saloon car at Snetterton, recording 1.36,6 and pulverising the Pierpoint-Gardner best by 3.2s! John Fitzpatrick (1.7 Team Broadspeed-Castrol Escort BDA) gave his class record an even bigger bashing, taking exactly seven seconds off Craft's previous record; Fitzpatrick also finished second overall, despite a flat rear tyre - a truly remarkable performance. |
