Now fitted with a five-litre motor following the recent rumpus which resulted in his exclusion from the British GP supporting race, Brian Muir continued his winning streak with the Wiggins Teape/Gartlan Camaro in the RAC saloon car round which rounded off the day's racing at Oulton Park. But although the results record another outright victory, John Fitzpatrick in the Broadspeed/Castrol Escort RS made him work pretty hard for his spoils, even getting alongside the Camaro on a couple of occasions despite a high speed misfire for much of the race. Third overall was Frank Gardner's SCA Freight Camaro which suffered slight gear selection bothers while fourth and fifth were the Boss Mustangs of Martin Birrane and Dennis Leech. Class wins went to Muir, Fitzpatrick, Dave Matthews and Bill McGovern's Imp. Muir and Fitzpatrick established new class records. |
