The second edition of the Coppa A.C. Verona at Monza (it used to be a hillclimb in the past) had a massive entry.

On Saturday, Sportscars and GTs kicked off the programme. Mario Ruspa (Abarth 2000) dominated until his car gave up 2 laps before the end, leaving victory to Porsche driver Zerbini, with the GT class wins going to Illotte and Gottifredi, the first being the only one in the same lap as the winner.

Sunday’s first race was for Group 2 850 and 1000. Fifteen cars on track for the rolling start, like all the other races. Stefanelli took the lead, followed by Gargan. The two alternated in command until the ninth lap, when the engine Gargan expired.

Twenty-one cars (classes 1150 and 1300) started the second race. Luigi Pozzo was never challenged, like De Tomasi in 1150.

The third race was the most interesting of the day, with a battle between the Conrero Opel Commodores and the Alfa Romeo 2000 GTAms. The Opels and the GTAm of Colzani stayed close until Gagliardi had to retire the second COmmodore in lap 9. Alfredo Santulli in his Alfa Romeo GTV 1600 won the 1600 class after a thrilling duel with Giulio Rossi.
