Before we enter the big fights and championship decisions, first there was another Group 1 race. A single race yet again, with the Kadett 1900’s on row one.
Post was the fastest this time, winning the 8500 class, while Hempenius got a narrow victory over a bunch of other NSU’s and Frankenhout’s Mazda. The smallest class was won by Coronel, standing in for Loek Vermeulen - he got used to the tricky car swiftly,lapping faster than anyone else.

In the under-1150 Group 2 race we saw Dijkstra on the grid - a major relief, since his behaviours the last race prompted the officials to withdraw his license (“psychical unfit to race”) but is was handed back to him - for the time being. He had a clean fight with van de Pol, but won the race and the championship. Slotemaker’s car would not start on the grid, so it was pushed away; cheeky Rob engaged the clutch and went after the field. He was black flagged for receiving a push-start, of course. The 1150 class and the championship here was won by van Oorschot.

While Akersloot and Berg sprinted away for a 1-2 for Ford in the 2000 cc class, Hezemans’ championship chances came to an abrupt end when he and rival van der Sluis closed in on van der Sluis’ team-mate Chiotakis, who had fuel feed problems. The situation at Tarzan corner: Chiotakis in front, Hezemans on the outside, van der Sluis on the inside. A few 100 meters later: Hezemans in the grass, van der Sluis and Chiotakis disappearing into the distance.
The role of Chiotakis was unclear and probably not decisive. But van der Sluis pushed Hezemans off, that was clear. Hezemans could continue but half a lap before the end was sidelined with a broken throttle cable.
Van der Sluis champion, therefore? Well, yes. He got fined 1000 Guilders (an unprecedented fine in the Netherlands) and a few weeks later, after appeal from Hezemans (“The championship is for sale for only 1000 Guilders!”) van der Sluis’ license was suspended until August 1, 1972 - a harsh verdict, even according to Hezemans.
No hard feelings, by the way: Van der Sluis and Hezemans would meet again in the future: Van der Sluis (the “S” of F&S properties) funding many of Hezemans’ projects, like F3 and F1 with Boy Hayje.
