At the dangerous circuit behind the Iron Curtain a good entry was received.

In division 1, Alfa Romeo had the upper hand, of course, but the Filipinetti Fiats had wide bodywork for the first time - the fastest Fiat was only in 11th spot, however. And there was a Broadspeed Escort GT for Jochen Mass, problems in practice left Mass in 8th place.

In fine weather, division 1 took the start, and Mass was soon close behind the two leading Alfa Romeo’s. But after four laps, an optimistic overtaking manoeuvre got Uberti into hospital and Mass out of the race. Picchi took the lead instead and easily won, with Fischhaber and Velimsky in privateer GTAJs in second and third, followed by the Czech Skodas, who were surprisingly fast with their 110 HP engines.

Division 2 and 3 the grey-blue Fords were dominant as expected. Two Capris were entered for Glemser and Ahrens; the Escort RS was driven by Fitzpatrick as usual. After practice, Glemser was fastest, Ahrens third and Fitzpatrick 4th. A likely timekeeping error placed Facetti in second, but he was a non-starter since Hezemans crashed his car in practice after hitting a kerbstone, and Facetti’s car was taken over by the reigning champion for the race.
BMW were represented by Alpina (two 2002’s and two coupés) and Schnitzer with one coupé.

After the start, the Ford trio was fastest away, but Ahrens had to stop early for a check after hitting the curbs. They were followed by Quester with in his slipstream Stuck (2002) and/or Hezemans. Stuck fell back with technical problems, and the Fords of Glemser and Fitzpatrick came in for fuel. Ahrens should come in after the BMW coupés had to stop for fuel (he had just passed them) - but they did not, and so Ahrens lost his third place and dropped back to fifth, leaving the Ford team with a big question mark about the tank size of the big BMWs.
Fitzpatrick in the Escort was uncatchable in division 2 and had a lead of a minute over Hezemans, when a few laps before the end he had to retire with a broken half shaft. So the overall victory was a first for the Ford Capri (Glemser), followed by the BMW coupés, Hezemans was victorious in division 2 after a splash and dash short before the end.

Afterwards, the Alpina coupé with its fuel injected engine went straight from the parc fermé to the filling station, putting a little over 110 litre in, far below the 120 litre maximum - and the tank was full now.
