Silverstone’s TT was a round for the ETCC for the first time. Finally, some British competitors mixing it with the Germans and the Italians. The race itself was not really exiting because of the chosen format. Dijkstra had passed McGovern but had to pit at the last possible moment for fuel. Again, Hezemans could race without topping for fuel, to the chagrin of his competitors. The first heat was won by Muir, in front of Stommelen and Hezemans. The Broadspeed Escort, which did have to stop for fuel, finished an excellent 4th overall. Heat two was won by Muir, followed by Gardner, Galli and Hezemans, so the final result was as follows: Gardner won, Hezemans second, Marko won division 2 while division 1 was a British affair with McGovern, Nightingale and Woodman (Dijkstra retired with a broken gearbox) - but no EC points here since division 1 had only 6 starters. |
