Fred Frankenhout won the first Group 1 race, a big lead over a fighting trio consisting of Mattijssen, van der Mast and Elmers. Mattijssen’s lonely Escort still got a podium position in between the Simca’s - and there would be many more of the French cars in the next few years... The other group 1 race was won by Kok (NSU), with Daniëls (Fiat) in second, Boom (Escort GT) of the next class in third, followed by another bunch of NSU’s. Dijkstra had hastily built an Abarth 1000 to replace his destroyed car; an 850 shell (borrowed from Deinum) with a 1000 cc engine. To no avail, since he got only to 7th on the grid - then his engine gave up in lap 2. Van Staalduinen won the 1000 class therefore, with Zwolsman winning the 850 division. Overall (and 1300) honours went to Akersloot, a great performance, keeping Boshuis in second - he dropped back after engine problems, but would not have beaten Akersloot anyway. The big group 2 race started with a bang: while Chiotakis started like a rocket, Hezemans was a little behind and was hit by Berg at Gerlach corner. He went sideways, and touched Lubin who left the track and was out of the race. |
