The curtain-raiser for the 500 km sports car race were the Italian touring cars, together with an FF1600 race.

Under 850 cc
Barone (Abarth 850) took the lead, followed by Gunella - these two were fighting for the title, like Mazzeschi and Gatta in the 600 class. But while Mazzeschi was in front of his class, Gatta’s spare engine was letting him down so he dropped to third behind Antonini - and that was how they finished. Garrone led the 700 from the start and was never in trouble, but second was enough for Famoso to bring the title home in his class. The 500s had a close fight between “York”, “Duval”, Dentamaro and Cerulli. In lap 10, there was a collision between “York” and Dentamaro, the latter retiring, “York” able to rejoin albeit out of touch with the others. Cerulli and "Duval" kept the audience at their feet, but “Duval” retired. “York” had to end his race too, fastest lap the only consolation. Another driver out of luck was Gunella: lapping other drivers he tried to remain pressure on Barone, but ended in the barriers at Acque Minerale. So the champions (this was their last race of the season) became Barone (850, preparation Baistrocchi), Famoso (700, Garavello), Mazzeschi (600, Garavello) and Santucci (500, Vaccari), who was already safe and only spectating at Imola.

850-1300 cc
Campanini had a bad qualification since his distributor broke, Ghedini was fastest in the 1150 class by 2 seconds and “Gianfa” was quickest overall. The race took a decisive turn right after the start, Tosa corner: CoIzani in the lead, behind him "Baronio” on the inside, Rosselli, Truci and “Gianfa”. Truci left his breaking too late and slammed into the GTA of “Baronio”, which spun and touched Rosselli, who in turn slammed into the barriers! The latter retired on the spot, Truci came in with a damaged rear suspension while “Baronio” could continue but lost valuable time. Colzani put some distance between him and “Gianfa”, but the latter’s engine enabled him to mount an attack which finally pays off with a won, with Colzani second and “Baronio” third after an excellent race. In the 1150 class, it is Ghedini who storms away, helped by an excellent car and ultra-wide Dunlop tires. After a few laps he is in control of the race, leaving second place man “Shangri-La” no chance at all. After some firework, Ratazzi retired with four laps to go. Campanini finally needed 8 laps to pass all of his class mates.

A more relaxed qualification here, since all drivers could start anyway. In the 2000 cc class it would be a battle between Venturi, De Leonibus, “Gap” and Merletti, but the latter became entangled between the 1600 cc cars after the start. Santulli led the 3000 class, helped by the problems of Castelli who retired soon after.
In lap 2 Venturi took the lead and had an uneventful race to the flag on a track new to him, despite being from Bologna! "Gap" finished second after a fight with De Leonibus. In 1600 Schenetti seemed bound for an easy victory with a margin of 6 seconds over Mingotti while the other Escort of Belli is down on power. lower engine. When Schenetti retired, it was Mingotti who won the class, with Santulli winning the 3000 cc class.
