Rallye Racing was quite critical about the state of affairs in the Rundstreckenmeisterschaft; one could only be champion if you won nearly all races and to improve your chances it was useful to enable some strong competition in your closest competitors’ class. As Hegels and Betzler were on top of the table, Rallye racing found neither a worthy champion-to-be; Hegels car had no competition to speak of while Betzler was surrounded by fellow Alpine-Renault drivers which were very disciplined.

Race 1
The front row of the grid was formed by the three Abarth cars of Machatius, Ernst and Pfeiffer. Machatius took the lead, Casteel followed until he overdid things at the exit of the stadium - he rolled his little car. Machatius went on and won the 1000 cc class, with Weiss winning the 850’s and Eichhammer won the 700 cc class.

Race 2
The 1600 cc entry had a few surprises in store: two Dutch Escorts (probably Frami cars) were entered for Mass and Kranefuss, no doubt to steal away some points from championship leader Hegels; but Alpina reacted: Hegels was put in Stenzel’s 3-litre coupé, Stenzel took over the 2002 of Bein, who in turn took over the 1600 cc car.
Mass and Kranefuss stormed away in the lead, but after lap 1 Kranefuss was missing - he had spun, Ammerschläger could not avoid the car and crashed into the Escort. Mass won, with Bein in second. 1150 victory was for Mineif in the Fiat 128.

Race 3
Sommer, Menzel and Gleich came out of lap one as the leaders, though Gleich was missing after lap 5. Sommer and Menzel were fighting like cats and dogs - and when Menzel’s engine played up he fell back, being passed by Bergner’s similar car. Sommer dropped back too, enabling Bergner the lead, but when it became clear that Menzel’s engine would not come good this Sunday, Sommer fought back and took the lead for good.

Race 4
The touring cars over 1600 cc were next; the over-3000 cc class had only 3 entries, and in the 3000 cc class Hegels had no real opposition. The 2000 cc class looked a bit better.
Schulz (Camaro) was in the lead after lap 1, but at the entry of the stadium he left the track and ploughed his way back, missing a few curves in the process. So Albert (Camaro) took over, followed by Stuck. Schüler had to pit, while Furtmayr and/or his car was not on form at all. Albert retired on lap 7, and now Schulz took over again and won, with Stuck and of course Hegels winning their classes.

Race 5
In the GT race, only the 1300 class was important, as far as the championship was concerned. Initially, Betzler was only fourth, but in the end the others slowed so Betzler could take another class victory.
