No group 1 race today, but we had two group 2 races. The small class had a thin field, the only decent group 2 Abarth winning easily in the hands of Dijkstra. But the other race was better; a large field, where pole setter Hezemans lost the lead after the start to Chiotakis, but the Dutchman with the Greek name had to let Hezemans go after a while and instead had a fine battle with Slotemaker. In lap 12 this fight was decided, when Slotemaker could lap team-mate Zwaanenburg without much trouble, while Chiotakis had more trouble - and when a wheel bearing gave troubles, he fell back. Behind them, Akersloot had a big fight with Keizer (in a far better prepared car, the Brescia car of Uberti), and Engeman, Dirks and Boshuis had a fight of their own too. Unfortunately, the quick van Oorschot had to give up after two punctures (the first one in the warm-up lap!); the second time, the wheel was not attached well, so it broke loose in lap 2. Finally, class victories were taken by Hezemans, Lubin, Keizer and van Straaten. |
