On 8:15 on Sunday morning the touring cars under 1000 cc went under way. Pole sitter Machatius took the lead, only to leave the road and roll the car past Müllenbach. The car was hardly damaged, but the victory went to Ernst, with another Abarth. The 850 class was won by Weiss (Abarth), the 700 class by Eichhammer.

The next race was for touring cars under 1300 cc. An interesting entry with Menzel and Sommer (Zakspeed Escort GT), Spiess (NSU), Gleich and Schommers (Alfa Romeo) and the Wooding-Mini’s of Von Bayern and Schmarje. A new entry was Karl-Heinz Becker in another Escort GT - with a Weslake fuel-injected engine, just like Zakspeed. The 1150 class would be contested between Ammerschläger, Dahlhäuser and Waldhier.
But it would be a little different as expected. Von Bayern had a great start (from 8th on the grid), followed by Cancian (Alfa Romeo) who had started even further down the grid. The track became a little narrower at the first left-hander, and mayhem followed: Von Bayern could enter the corner in front of Becker - Cancian could not, hit Becker and spun. Bergner tried to avoid Cancian - he succeeded but rammed Waldhier instead. The race was stopped, the track was cleared and the catch fencing repaired. Over an hour later, the race was restarted with the remaining 24 cars.
Lap 1: Gleich in the lead, then Spiess, Schommers, Menzel, Bergner, Sommer, Keizer, von Bayern and Schmarje. The latter had to give up with overheating problems, while Menzel and Becker had to retire as well. Only Spiess was left to fight Gleich, and he did close in - but in the last lap Spiess made contact trying to lap a competitor, and ended up beside the track. He could get going again but was classified only 7th. The 1150 class, robbed of its main contenders, was won by Horn.

The following race (touring cars 1600 and 2000 cc) included the championship decision; a fourth place would be enough for Hegels. A move to the 2000 or over-2000 class was considered, but finally Hegels started in the 1600 class - as usual.
A class of its own was young Stuck, uncatchable for anyone, although Brun took an early lead. Two private Escort TC’s were entered against Hegels, with Glemser and Michael Kranefuss; Glemser, 1969 champion, could prove the Escort TC was superior to a BMW, but Kranefuss fell victim over a collision between Werner and Hessel. The resulting second place in class for Hegels meant the title.

The last race was for touring cars over 2000 cc and GT’s. Furtmayr was unchallenged, since Heyer retired with gearbox problems. Mass retired too, with injection troubles. The GT’s were interesting since the vice-champion Betzler competed here; he finished second behind Klauke, the other classes were won by Nolte (VW-Porsche) and Hoffmann (Corvette).

Interesting entry in the unlimited sportscar race was the ex-works turbo BMW 2002 of Basche; but he had to retire.
