Before the F5000 action, an entertaining race for standard cars up to 1300 cc was held. 9 NSU TT’s and two Escorts - and van der Pol was fastest away, followed by pole sitter Leeuwenburgh and Kok. “Cento” was fourth, but was hindered by van der Mast and launched a protest after the race. The 4 NSU’s at the front changed position each lap, Kok taking the lead at one stage, only to get into trouble at Hunzerug. The trio van der Pol-van der Mast -Kok raced on, until van der Pol pitted on lap 7. Lap 9: Van der Mast ahead, Kok coming out of the slipstream trying for the lead. A bit of off-road work for Kok then, allowing Van der Mast the victory. The other classes were won by Jonker (1150) and Koks (1000).

Group 5 under 1000 cc: a 25 lap race for them. The 1000 cc class was won by Dijkstra, followed by Boshuis who could follow but nothing more. The 850 class looked like being decided when Brandsma spun while leading 4 seconds on Swart. But he came back, closing in on Swart lap after lap. When Swart left the road on the last lap, Brandsma passed and won his class. An exhausted Swart finished second, poisoned by a leaking exhaust. In both classes the championship was not decided yet - 25 points each for both leaders in both classes!

The big guns looked like having an anticlimax when Hezemans’ engine ran its bearings in practice. But Keizer’s engine (whose car was owned by Hezemans) was removed and was put into the SRT Porsche. Would the engine be quick enough to fend off van Lennep, whose car (and wheels) were of a similar width as Hezemans’ this time.

It was, and Hezemans clinched the championship. Dudok van Heel won the 1600 class in fine style, while second man Lubin already was champion, like Koster in the +2500 class. The 1300 class still had to be decided, Oskamp and Chiotakis equal on points.

The last race of the day was the 850 standard race, won by “Houten Sam”.
