Six touring car races here, of which the three standard races were probably not too exciting - not a single line about them in contemporary reports. The 1000 cc group 5 race however brought excitement when Dijkstra could not find second gear apparently, so Boshuis had a big lead initially - but Dijkstra closed the gap, climbing from seventh after lap 1 to a close second at the finish. Zwolsman fell back after a strong six laps. The 850 class was won by Swart. The 1300 class finished in the same order as the starting grid, with the exception of Keijzer ho did not start and de Vries who retired. Chiotakis tried and tried but it seemed an Alfa was less suited to this circuit than the Coopers. A lot of discussion on the grid for the last race of the day. Most cars were on their designated position; one was not. The first start saw mayhem when Jaap Zwart cancelled the start by raising the flag - Slotemaker had crept 10 meters. Koster either did not see it or saw Slotemaker next to him and blasted off, ending between the two Porsches of Hezemans and van Lennep. All three cars were damaged but could start later. The second start was better, Hezemans taking the lead in front of van Lennep, Slotemaker third amidst a cloud of smoke, which would not hamper him by any means - even with a puncture on the last lap could still win his class. |
