Fascinating the time difference after practice between the first two and the third car on the Group 1 grid under 850 cc: about 4 seconds! Were the cars as standard as they were supposed to? “Houten Sam” won in front of Knauer. The other standard race was a NSU fight, as usual. Four of them (Kok, van der Pol, “Cento” and Leeuwenburgh) needed more than the tarmac and had some off-road excursions. Finally, Kok held the upper hand with a slipstream finish. Anticlimax was the word for the Group 5 race of this saturday. Boshuis had a massive shunt in practice when the wind blew the three-wheeling car off the track at Scheivlak, and wrote off his car - he could not start (the doctors advised against a start in Zwolsman’s car) and therefore lost the championship to Dijkstra, who won the race without serious opposition. The 850 class, with a championship at stake too, saw Brandsma retire in lap 9, giving the championship to Swart. Before his retirement, Brandsma had started the final attack, a fantastic lap of 1.54,6 bringing him close to Swart. |
