The first 36 hour race at the Nürburgring was a success. Pre-race favourites included three Porsches and a few Koepchen BMWs, but after the start the Porsches had the upper hand. In third was the BMW of Heinz Hennerci & co. The second placed Porsche of Schuller tried to compensate an unscheduled stop but when the brakes locked Schuller found himself in between the numerous bushes of the Ring. Hennerci’s car retired which clutch problems, so the Porsche of Kremer, Gall and Thiel crossed the line first ahead of another Porsche with Loos, Pesch and Rottlender. Exciting was the dice in Special Touring under 1300 cc: the VW of Lammers/Ochs/Sailer and the NSU of Hirsch/Rothstein/Schmitz were close during nearly the whole race, until 12 minutes before the end the rear axle of the NSU gave up. |
