For the final, all eyes were on the 1000 cc class and the 1600 cc class. Menzel became some fierce competition: not a Ford, but an Abarth with Willi Sommer, entered by the (Ford) Autohaus Zakowski... If he couldn’t be beaten, a narrow victory for Menzel could cost some bonus points. As usual, it turned out different: Sommer followed Menzel closely, only to hit a straw bale which Menzel had touched. A damaged radiator meant a retirement and a victory for Menzel. Glemser, on the other hand, would be challenged not only by Mass but by old master Schultze as well, while apart from Mohr his second helper Schüler became ill and could not start. Glemser had a bad start but took the lead in lap two, leaving Mohr and Schultze fighting it out for second. Glemser won the race and had a few more bonus points in the end, meaning that he was German champion - with all the power from Ford behind him. Privateer Menzel could take pride in his second place overall.
