With such a wide disparity of modifications there was much discontent during practice. The Group 1 runners tried to lobby for a separate race but Jules Buisseret (race promoter) refused.

At the end of the first lap Gaban’s Porsche led from pole man Duvigneaud then “Christine” in the “blown” Alfa, Demoulin, Mathay, Wicky, Fontaine and Potters.
Gaban continued to lead the Frenchman - “René” moved the Grp 1 Mustang up from 11th on the 1st lap to 6th by lap 5. Even more spectacular was “Alain Dex” who had started his Escort on the last row and was now up to 6th after 12 laps.
Collin’s BMW was having a hard time fending off attacks from the Minis of de Van Pelt and Merckx while Jacquemin, Bardet and Berger still lead their respective classes.
Some cars needed to refuel, but others kept going in what was now a rather processional race. Both the Team Bianchi Alfas suffered suspension problems, Demoulin loosing out to Fontaine’s works Escort while “Christine” abandoned the race after 22 laps.
After an hour and 40 minutes of racing Gaban easily took the flag from Duvigneaud and Fontaine.
