Opel wanted to have its own race, since VW had the Formula Vee here. An idea for Opel single seaters never took off, instead touring cars from all over Europe were entered. There were GTs, prototypes (Opel GT with non-homologated carburettors), Group 2 and Group 5 cars from Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and of course Germany. Non-starter was the “Black Widow”, the Opel Rekord 1900 Group 5. |
