Heat 1
The first heat was a 5-lap sprint race for cars under 1300 cc. The 1000 cc Mazda’s had been quickest at practice, but on race day the Minis got their act together. Though the Japanese cars took the lead after the start, but after a while Harvey passed, followed by Nelson and Davis. The latter two exchanged positions as well, and in the end we had a 1-2-3 for BMC.

Heat 2
Two oversized Minis were the fastest cars of the field - but one of them (Foley) had to start from behind. Would the 5-lap distance be enough to get to the front?
Yes. On lap 2, Foley was in the lead already, followed by Manton, who tried to fight back. Steve Holland (Cortina) came third, while Dusty Miller entertained the crowd with an acrobatic performance in an Audi.

Final
Grid positions were determined by the race speed during the heats. Foley’s red Mini took the lead and won the race without notable opposition. Harvey was second for some time, but retired, allowing Manton to second place. The 999 Mini of Nelson was driven very well, until he misjudged a corner after being lapped by Foley - he fell by the wayside, literally.
