The race was over 48 laps, about 500 kms. The 32 starters were lined in a 3x2x3 grid. Pilette led initially from the Alfas of Trosch, Gosselin, Nicole Sol, Dezy and Witvrouw’s Cortina. Derom led the the 2 litre class in the BMW and Aron’s Mini leading the 1300s from a great scrap between the Renaults of Jaquemin and Béguelin and the Glas of Demarcin.
Lap 4 saw Gosselin pass Trosch for 2nd, and by half distance, pit stop time, Gosselin was about to hand over to Demoulin when a split hose was discovered that could not be replaced.

Julian Vernaeve, the BMC agent de Gand, had taken his semi official works Mini into the lead of the small class but after refuelling the car would not start! It took his mechanics 30 minutes to trace the problem…
The race was now becoming processional - perhaps 500 kms was a bit too long? Pilette ‘s leading Alfa now suffered engine problems - the Belgian walking into the pits some time later. Dezy’s Alfa lost 2nd place to the two fast running girls when the car stuck in gear.
