Wim Loos was all over the Dutch press on Monday after the race. His debut, just three months after getting his drivers’ licence, was spectacular: after John Whitmore’s promise to get him a Lotus Cortina after seeing him and boss Slotemaker in a skid-demonstration a few months before the time had come to see how good he really was. The smallest cars had opened the day; Koster, Oskamp (BMW), Jonker (DKW) and Swart (Abarth) would fight for every inch of the track. Jonker took the lead first, with Koster second and Oskamp third. Koster passed and slowly got some distance, while Swart attacked Jonker for third, only to be halted with a broken fuel line. Oskamp made a mistake at Hunzerug, so finally the order became Koster, Jonker and Oskamp. Championships for Koster and Jonker here. Polesitter Nerden took it easy in the second race; class win was al he wanted for his championship, so Swart could win the race outright - the 1000 cc title went to van Osch, who finished third in class. |
