Car info:

Because of the temperatures, the race was much harder than the previous year. Initially, the turbocharged Corvair Spyder of Hayes and Davis was in the lead, clearly the fastest car on the track until it ran into troubles with the transmission housing which came loose. It eventually finished in 11th. The old-shape Volvo of Beck and Howes took over and won the race, ahead of the Saab 96 of Mayforth and Braun, which had rolled early in the race but were able to continue.
The new Volvo 122s all ran into trouble, just like the sensational Mini Cooper of Penske and Thompson - but this only dropped the car from second to fourth, still quite an achievement.
