Three Jaguars on row 1, two Chevrolets on row 2; Salvadori was away first, followed by the two Chevrolets but Sears soon recovered to third since the Chevy of Sachs had to retire. The leaders were followed by Baillie, Harper, Hutcheson, Whitmore, Jopp and Love - but the latter was furiously attacked by Carlisle. On lap 3, Sears took second from Kelsey (Chevrolet), and Carlisle was really motoring - she passed Love on lap three, Whitmore on lap four and even drew away from them. Meanwhile, Hutcheson’s Riley had been on the tail of class leader Harper but the car went sick and Hutcheson dropped to the tail of the field. Since both Alan Fraser Sunbeams retired and Lewis’ crawled round the track at the end, Harper’s car was the only one left with any kind of speed in it.
Poor Carlisle’s clutch cried enough - the brave girl had to retire after a magnificent display.
Salvadori held off Sears’ attack and won the race with Kelsey third and Baillie fourth - but after the race Kelsey was disqualified since the car had no silencer.
