10 laps with plenty action for the Group 2 cars here. Graham Hill went in the lead, followed by Salvadori, Hobbs, Sears and Baillie, while Parkes had a miserable start and never recovered from this. His fastest lap was only a small consolation.
A small gap and then the next class, with Hutcheson (Riley) and Harper (Sunbeam) - and they were closely followed by a little car with front-wheel drive: Whitmore and the Mini Cooper. And Whitmore was not content with following only: he bombed through Melling flat-out and sideways, got the car in a straight line again and slammed past Harper and Hutcheson, who were braking for Tatts.
Sears drove an inspired race too: in lap 2, he passed Hobbs, went after Salvadori and passed him at Melling at the end of lap four. At Tatts, he went into the grass, and he could start all over again since Hobbs and Salvadori went by. But Sears could not repeat his performance, though he continued in fine style. In the next class, Hutcheson just beat Harper with Love winning the 1000 cc class - after Whitmore had a little moment somewhere.
