Not a World Championship race anymore, but now the final of the German Rundstreckenmeisterschaft took place at the Hockenheimring. The “12 hours” were misleading; all 8 races were only for 45 minutes each.
The first race, 9 o’clock in the morning, was for touring cars between 1300 and 2000 cc and was spiced with a fight between the Volvos of Mahle and Löbler, the latter winning in the end.
There were insufficient cars in the 850 class, so it was combined with the 1000 cc cars, and together with the 1300 cc cars the second race of the day took place. Braun won in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta after a hard fight with Rader who dropped back in the end, but third overall was Mantzel with his 850 cc car!
In the third race it was a fight between Schneider and Koch, but Schneider coming out on top. Race four had 16 NSUs at the start and a single Steyr-Fiat, but the latter surprised all when he got second place at the stad-kurve - and he kept it to the end, behind winner “Karl Valentin” but ahead of the Sport Prinz of Erich Bitter!
Lap after lap the lead changed in the race for touring cars over 2000 cc, but finally Lindner went ahead and won.
The GT race under 1300 cc was won by the 1000 cc Abarth of Zick after the Lotus and Alfas retired. The 1600 cc Porsche class was won by the Carrera of Hahnl, while the last race of the day was won by the Aston Martin of Lindner but Nöcker (Mercedes) was never far behind. When Lindner had to pit with throttle linkage problems, Nöcker took over but tried to regain lost ground in magnificent style - in the end, all that was missing was 1,5 metres...
