Jaguars were still at the zenith of their supremacy, with four 3.8s on the grid. Sir Gawaine Baillie led off the line, but Jack Sears' Jaguar got in front by Stowe, followed moments later by Colin Chapman (yes, that one) in another Jaguar. In the 1600 class Alan Hutchinson's Riley 1.5 held sway from Paddy Hopkirk's Sunbeam Rapier, Peter Harper's Rapier, Les Leston's Volvo and Peter Jopp in another Volvo. Billy Blydenstein, later of DTV fame, was in a Borgward Isabella of all things. Doc Shepherd's A40 engaged Nicky Byrne's Auto Union in a fine scrap for the small class honours, while Jeff Uren and David Haynes disputed another class in their big Ford Zephyrs. Highlight of the 1960 race, however, was the epic dice between Chapman and Sears, their order changing every lap. Sears even passed Chapman on the grass at one stage. Last time round, Sears got in front by, Becketts, but Chapman repassed at Woodcote and won by 0.25s with Baillie third. Hopkirk took his class after Harper had first collided with Hutcheson and spun, then regained the class lead only to crash! Haynes beat Uren in the Ford scrap, and Shepherd's A40 pocketed the tiddler class honours.
