Originally intended as two races the “compact car” event was amalgamated into a single race held before the US GP. The cars were lined up for a Le Mans start but, with the drivers all buckled in, it was up to a crew member to run across the road to touch the drivers hand!
Pearson’s Volvo was first away but soon the two Jags were in command followed by the works Rapiers and the Volvo. Pabst lead briefly after 3 laps, Hansgen regaining top position on lap 7… then they swapped position frequently to keep the small crowd amused.
