At the front of the grid, four 3.8 Jaguars. Sears and Baillie were quickest off the mark, with Salvadori close behind. Hill was left behind which a slipping clutch. The order was now Sears, Salvadori and Aston (3.4 Jaguar) - with Salvadori and Sears exchanging the lead twice. For third, there was a fight between Baillie, Aston and Hill, but Aston started to drop back from lap 4 - he was now in reach of the duelling Shepherd and Leston.
Lap 5: Salvadori was in the lead again, while Aston got a little distance between him and Leston. Parness passed Shepherd and now chased Leston, Baillie had spun and was in fifth place now, and the Minis of Blumer and Clare were fighting the Zephyr of Uren. Blumer actually managed to pass Uren, and in the meanwhile Hill had a go at Sears, but spun and hit the bank. In the end, Salvadori won the race with Sears in second, with Shepherd winning the 1000 cc class. The fight of the race, Uren versus Blumer, was decided in the last lap when Blumer managed to pass Uren once again and kept a narrow margin to the finish line.
