Car info:
Postponed from its traditional May date because of the Suez crisis, the opening laps saw a splendid fight between Hawthorn, Scott Brown, Hamilton and Bueb all in the “new” 3.4 litre Jaguars. Their cornering was spectacular “door-handles nearly scraping the ground”. Scott Brown’s car expired in a cloud of brake fluid smoke. Harold Grace beat main rival Sears (both in BMC assisted cars) with Flockhart’s Coombs Jag 2.4 as interloper. Noel Cunningham Reid was impressive in the AFN DKW. Foster and Waller in their BMC assisted MGs narrowly beat Bridger’s Borgward. M. Adler had a very lucky escape when he clipped the inside concrete wall at Club and rolled his Austin A105 practically into a ball! |
