And Then... - DTM after 1993
The
DTM went on after 1993 with Mercedes, Opel and Alfa Romeo. The cars
became more complicated each year, with automatic gearboxes, active
suspension, weight transfer systens, you name it. Drivers were paid
lots of money, and the races suffered; the cars were so fragile that a
light touch could destroy handling. |
When
Bernie Ecclestone "helped" the DTM by transferring it into ITTC with
races all over the world, costs rose further until Opel and Alfa quit
after the end of the 1996 season. Top-level German touring car racing
would now be Class 2, with Aiello and his Peugeot doing most of the
winning. In 2000, a more cost-reduced version of DTM hit the tracks. |
