1987, a new era for Italian Touring Car Racing begun; a Group A
championship, combined with Group N races which were divided into two
regions. The Group A part was a full championship, the regional Group N
races were used to qualify for the final at Vallelunga.
Despite its age, the BMW 635 was still a race winner; but since the class was poor on entries, the title went to Di Gioia in the BMW M3 who won outright only once. The Group N final was won overall by Maurizio Flammini, the former F2 driver, so I guess the title went to him.
