Deutsche Produktionswagen Meisterschaft

The Rising Of The North - 1985 index

It was still silent racing, but more and more well-known names took part in the races: the Schnitzer team (though they moved out quickly), Ludwig and Niedzwiedz. Since the Sportscar championship went downhill, sooner or later this would be the prime championship of Germany - and we all know it did just that. Not too many new cars, but the works-assisted Ford Sierras made a big impact although they were too late to have anything to do with the outcome of the championship; that went to Volvo and Per Stureson. Late in the season, weight handicaps were adjusted to limit the Ford and Volvo performance, while BMW and Rover could remove some weight; but Grohs' opening victory with his BMW 635 remained the only victory for the coupé, while Manthey didn't win at all.
