After two years of trying, the Belgian Group N championship took off, but not without a false start; the first race was far too early and communication was bad; the result: 10 cars on the grid. The rest of the season was better , with four frontrunners with a BMW 635 CSi: De Deyne, the Martin brothers and Guy Nève. De Deyne, even after a disqualification held the upper hand and was crowned champion. There were five classes in total, a bit much for a grid of about 20 cars, but there was some inspired driving, especially of the Toyota Corolla pair of De Sterck and Aerts.
