Deutsche Rundstrecken Pokal

1981 index

The Rundstrecken Pokal lost much of its former glory, the GT class never having the necessary 5 entrants and the 12 Touring Car classes had seen better days as well. The champion this year was someone who had seen better championships in his career: no less than ex-Zakspeed and Formula 2 driver Armin Hahne. But a clever choice of car and class (Group 2 Mazda RX7), only 1 retirement and the rest only class wins brought the championship and a restart of his career. Hans Frensch in his Talbot Rallye 3 became second; his points score was exactly like Hahne's but he was beaten in Zandvoort by a local driver. Fourth was a promising Escort driver by the name of Jörg van Ommen.
