Though I have a lot of information on the outcome of most races, I don't have too much information on how the races actually went. But the results themselves give some insight. The field was massive, both over 2500 cc and under 1600; the two other classes were less in number and quality. Some races must have been very tight, like the "promotion" race at the EG trophy; the first three finished within 0,2 seconds.
The championships themselves were not so close, unfortunately; the Promotion class was won by Pirenne in his Golf by a decent margin, but the Production class was completely dominated by Jean-Michel Martin and his Spice Capri; he won six out of ten races and became champion by a large margin, having nearly double the number of points than vice-champion Semoulin - one of his three teammates.
Though teams and sponsors had grown to professionalism rather quickly, the organisation and technical inspection stayed behind, resulting in an endless line of disqualifications, re-instatements, forceful driving with and without penalty, you name it. The Belgian championship blossomed - but it was unsure if the big teams and sponsors would continue in 1981 in such an amateurish environment.
