1978: former triple champion Unett had retired, so finally the title would go to a different class, maybe a regular overall winner? Not so. After much hassle about the regulations, leading into disqualification of Dron, Spice and Lloyd at the Donington roumd, the only leading frontrunner with a legal car turned out to be Longman in the Mini - who was awarded the title even before the last round, another anticlimax for the championship. And it had been such a great year: many new Capri 3's and two BMW 530's fighting for race wins, Dron somewhat behind but dominating the 2500 cc class until he ran into troubles later in the season, while the other classes had some good fights as well.
Perhaps next year a frontrunner as the champion?
