It is interesting to compare the British championship with the French one. Where in Britain it was Capris all around with only a few BMW 530is, it was the other way round in France; a large amount of BMWs and only a few Capris, which were out of their depth, even after a few rule changes in mid season. The Capris became a little bit more freedom on the front suspension, while for Opel a 3 litre engine for the Commodore was allowed. But it was all to no avail, the BMWs dominating while in the 2500 cc class the Dolomites had strong opposition from the Escorts. In the end, Beltoise was champion again.
