After the oil crisis shock, it was a relief that the season could start as planned at the Belgian Zolder track. New faces, new cars, but the main contenders were to be Meyer (Alfa Romeo), Dören (VW-Porsche) and Schulz (Abarth). Meyer won the title deservedly, since he did have opposition - even of fellow Alfa driver Bischoff, whose cooperation only started at the last race. Meyer was only beaten at Hockenheim but won all other races in the Alfa GTAJ, a car built in the late 60's. A great champion.
