IMSA extended its championship (renamed to "Camel GT Challenge series") to 10 races, two of them at Daytona. The Camel involvement made it easier to negotiate event dates.
Manufacturers' championships went to Chevrolet (GTO and TO), Porsche (GTU) and BMW (TU).
