As Schultze retired from the championship, it seemed to be wide open again. Germany was still a Group 2 country, though sometimes Group 5 cars were allowed at the meetings too - unable to score points, of course. Ford had taken the championship very seriously, providing Glemser and Mohr with Escort TC's built by Alan Mann. In other classes, Ford was present as well, sometimes only to hinder other competitors takening full points. In this way, some drivers were eliminated from the championship stakes (notably Commodore pilot Wiens), but despite funding some Abarth entries by Autohaus Zakowski with capable drivers, Harald Menzel, like Glemser, scored maximum points at all meetings. The the complicated bonus point system finally gave the title to Glemser and Ford.
