The Young Ones - 1966 index

This was a year of emerging stars - some with a long career in front of them, some short and tragic. Many, many Abarths, great in 850 and 1000 cc versions - and poor with the 695 SS, in the Netherlands referred to as "esse-esse" for obvious reasons - the war was only a little over 20 years ago now.
The 700 cc category was a fight between the BMW's and the Steyr-Puch of Gerard van Lennep - who claimed the championship at the green table. The 850 cc championship was for Jonker, the 1000 cc class newcomer Toine Hezemans and Ed Swart were equal on points after the four races. 1300 cc was a close fight between the Minis of Dudok van Heel (RTH) and Oskamp (SRT) - the first one champion.
1600 cc champion was Wim Loos - in his first full season, he moved to the team of Rob Slotemaker, leaving exciting drives in a Porsche Carrera 6 to Pon and van Lennep; but with a Formula 1 test at the end of the season the future seemed bright.
Finally, the 2-liter class was not very exciting, with Koster winning for RTH; but the last race saw the debut of yet another promisong driver: Ab Goedemans.
